Poems to Read Based on Your Favorite Tarot Cards
I went around and asked my fellow witches what their favorite tarot cards were. A few mentioned were crowd favorites, like Strength and The Sun, whereas others said they really liked the Queen of Cups and the Chariot. I took a few of them, went to my bookshelf, and picked out poems I felt went best alongside those cards.

Queen of Cups – Upright
I chose this poem because of it’s soft and positive nature. It has a gentle vibe, just like the Queen of Cups.
The Queen of Cups is nurturing, caring, compassionate and sensitive. When you see her in a Tarot reading, you are embodying her ‘nurturing mother’ energy.
Queen of Cups – Reversed
I’m a little biased on this one, because the piece doesn’t exactly match the card, but I’m fond of all of Caitlin’s work, and really wanted to include this poem.
When the reversed Queen of Cups shows up in a Tarot reading, you need to draw your attention inwards and focus on your emotional well-being. You’re great at taking care of others – but now it’s time to take care of YOU.
Nine of Swords – Upright
This poem, to me, shares the sleepless nights that are only fixed by dreams of someone we can’t have, whether that be because we haven’t yet found them, or because what was had between is now history.
The Nine of Swords suggests that dark thoughts and disturbing feelings are weighing you down (and keeping you up at night).
Nine of Swords – Reversed
When reversed, we are to ask ourselves why we are holding ourselves to such high standards, why we are letting our negative thoughts to control us. I felt this poem by Jamie fit pretty well.
The reversed Nine of Swords can also point out that you are incredibly hard on yourself, putting yourself down or engaging in negative self-talk.
The Star – Upright
The Star brings renewed hope and faith, and a sense that you are truly blessed by the Universe.
This piece, though short, holds a beautiful message and reminder that things may have been dreary, but are now looking up.
The Star – Reversed
This card, when reversed, can mean we’ve lost hope, and for many of us, going through a breakup can make us feel very hopeless. And when trying to love someone, who doesn’t love you back? The hurt can be overwhelming.
The reversed Star card can mean that you’ve lost faith and hope in the Universe.
